A Dutch company has developed technology to make translucent composite laminates. These can have a high gloss gelcoat with a similar daytime look as normal gelcoated surfaces. During nighttime led light can shine through the material. A Dutch company has developed technology to make translucent composite laminates. These have a high gloss gelcoat with a similar daytime look as normal gelcoated surfaces. During nighttime an array of build in leds can shine through the material. This enables composite structures like facades and bridge elements to be enhanced with additional built-in lightning and to create special landmarks with a high visual impact. Also smaller products for e.g. the wellness sector and special industrial applications can be enhanced with this technology and be made more attractive.
The company has done extensive research and developed a specific laminate with glass fibre, resin en gelcoats and integrated LED lightning to create this special effect. By using robot technology the light diffusion is very homogeneous. The panels feature a high gloss covering gelcoat during daytime and are LED transparent during the night.
