Summary

A Hungarian small enterprise has developed an energy cell for the utilization of thermal energy generated during aerobic processes, which can substitute even boilers or heat pumps as a heat producer in systems operated at low temperatures. It can be used out- or indoors as well as for the heating of properties without a green space. The company is seeking partners for the further development of the product or financial resources.

Full description

A Hungarian small enterprise founded by the professionals and the inventors has developed an energy cell for the utilization of thermal energy generated during aerobic processes.
Developing, production and testing was done by the companys professionals too.

The energy cell is applicable mainly for the prime energy feeding of water-water heat pumps, the increase of efficiency of air-water heat pumps in addition to the optimization of their energy consumption, and applied as a separate unit, it can be used as a heat producer in heating systems operated at low temperatures (wall-heating, ceiling-heating, floor-heating).

The cell is a container with insulated double walls and a volume of 1.3 m³, equipped with a tailored heat exchange system, air holes providing continuous oxygen supply, openings making connections to the heating system possible and cleaning and filling slots inside.

The material of energy source can basically be any type of compostable green waste (e.g. hay, vegetable waste, vegetable waste produced during food processing, farmyard manure etc.).

The container filled with vegetable and other waste is connected to the heating system and the heat pump and is used in the usual way, the energy cell does not require maintenance until running down. The run-down cells can be refilled at the place of usage or if there is no possibility for that, they can be exchanged for a refilled unit. The process of exchange takes approx. 10-15 minutes and does not require the heating system to be emptied.

Application in systems with a greater need for heat is made possible with the energy cells connected in series, thus it can be used even in shell heating systems.

Since the weight of the energy cell filled is quite significant (700-800 kgs), it is equipped with wheels to make movement easier. This feature should be taken into consideration during placing. However, since it can be placed in the open air even outside the building, it is not a drawback to its applicability.

An energy cell filled can supply the system with thermal energy in a period of 30-120 days, which depends on the extension and operational features of the system applied (e.g. water amount, temperature, periodical or continuous operation) to a great extent.

Cleaning and refilling the energy cell takes about 1 hour, material costs of a refilling accounts for an amount of EURO 0-3, the possible transport costs of which not included.

The establishment of an exchange network could facilitate the distribution of the system, which would transport and exchange run-down cells for ready-to-use ones similar to gas containers if required. The use of the energy cell system would mean considerable savings for users in this case as well.

A task to be resolved during further development is the increasing the efficiency of the heat exchange system, connecting and testing with other systems on the market, applying the energy cell partly or in full in other systems.

Innovative Aspects

- Economical: Its operation does not require any other type of additional energy, electricity etc.
- Environment-friendly: The process does not generate combustion products.
- Applicable everywhere: As there is no by-product emission, it is applicable anywhere and apart from buildings, either in basement rooms or separate premises of living spaces.
- It facilitates the applicability of heat pumps: With the application of thermal energy cell, installation circumstantialities of heat pump systems can be eliminated. In case of air-water heat pumps, decrease in heating performance occuring at low environmental temperature can be moderated considerably or even eliminated completely.

Partner expertise sought:

- Type of partner sought: industry.

- Specific area of activity of the partner: development, manufacture, implementation of heating systems.

- Task to be performed by the partner sought: increasing the efficiency of the heat exchange system, connecting and testing with other systems on the market, applying the energy cell partly or in full in other systems and financial investors too.
