Summary
An Israeli water treatment company has developed a breakthrough of SED (Selective Electro Dialysis) adapt for potable water for municipalities. The technology is unique and proven stand alone plant that is able to treat Nitrates (chlorides and hardness) selectively (instead of treating entire water as the old technologies that they have many limitations). This and other novelties have great effect on the extremely low operational costs. The company seeks partners for collaboration.
Full description
An Israeli large private water treatment company has developed and is operating a novel and advanced system For Nitrate removal.
Nitrate removal is a major issue and the existing methods used have different problems such as low recovery rates, environmental contamination, expensive maintenance and high energy consumption.
The company is currently managing 15 BOT nitrate removal projects for various municipalities and reports shows and approved that the new system saves 40% to 50% of the municipalities' costs\expenses compared their previous costs.
The breakthrough of SED Technology is a stand alone plant that is able to treat Nitrates (chlorides and hardness) selectively instead of treating the entire water as other technologies do.
This major point and the others have great effect on our low operational costs as detailed below:
The SED process is a robust and energy-efficient method of removing 70% nitrates, 40% chlorides, and 40% water hardness from large-capacity wells of 100,000,000 gallons per year or more.
The company's SED is a stand-alone plant which replaces traditional technologies such as Reverse Osmosis or Ion Exchange with a simple process that typically includes only hydro-cyclone or a cartridge filter unit and a membrane stack to produce drinking water of the highest quality.
Electro-dialysis has been approved by the EPA to remove nitrates from ground and surface water. It is chemical free in both the feed stream (raw water) and the product stream (water after purification). Chemicals are only used in the concentrate stream after the pollution is separated from the water. The use of chemicals only in the concentrate stream is not only environmentally friendly, but also makes the process more cost-effective.
Further savings and benefits result from an economical use of electricity. The SED unit is capable of handling a high level of pollution at a low pressure of 2-3 bars. It has a high recovery rate of 93%-95%. Moreover, the performance of the stack is constant over time, and does not deteriorate, requiring the same low energy level throughout the plant's operation.
As a result of the company is interested in finding global local partners for their unique and proven Nitrate removal solution for potable water for municipalities.
Innovative Aspects
" The SED is a targeted solution- Unlike the general applicability of RO
" Works at a low pressure
" A High recovery rate of 93% - 95%.
" Resilient to silicate and other materials commonly found in ground water
" Friendlier to the environment thanks to a limited use of chemicals
" Energy efficient
" Membrane life - More than 10 years.
Ion Exchange is economical for smaller water sources and medium salinity levels. Since it replaces nitrates with chlorides, ion exchange can only lower nitrate levels by 15 mg/l. A high level of chloride pollution will also render ion exchange unfeasible.
Chemicals are used in ion exchange for several purposes, mostly in pre-treatment of all the source water and resins regeneration. Resins must be treated to free the nitrates that accumulate on them during the exchange process at regular intervals. In addition to consuming harmful chemicals, the regeneration process is never completely effective, resulting in gradual degradation of performance over time.
Main Advantages:
" Low Operating costs
" Energy- High energy efficiency, works at low pressure
" Maintenance - Scheduled every 3-6 months
" Complexity - Simple process (at bare minimum mechanical pre-treatment and membranes stack)
" Low Maintenance risks (since the process is very simple and the membranes are robust)
" Chemicals added only to concentrate.
