Summary
A North West region of the United Kingdom University has developed a novel thermal barrier coating whose advantages are: low cost method using less energy and giving higher levels of mechanical strength, greater coating adhesion. The developer is looking for an appropriate partner for commercialisation evaluation and scale up to a production plant under a joint co-operation agreement and license.
Full description
A North West region of the United Kingdom University has developed a thermal barrier coating where the relatively coarse particles are held to-gether by nano particles. In harsh environments this dense coating provides protection and insulation to particularly complex shapes such as metallic and/or 3D shaped turbine blades, combuster cans, ducting & nozzle guide vanes. This material therefore has particular relevance to the aircraft engine and power generation sectors. The coating has longer thermal life cycles, superior resistance to erosion, greater mechanical strength, smoother surface finish and is produced using lower sintering temperature than those currently available. The inventor is seeking a suitable partner for evaluation and to bring it to the market.
