FP7 funding for Security R&D and ICT R&D

INFORMATION DAY

ECIT Building, Titanic Quarter, Belfast

11th June 2012

Companies in Northern Ireland are poised to become major beneficiaries of strategic infrastructure developments such as those brought by Project Kelvin. The advanced communications infrastructure positions Northern Ireland advantageously within the global marketplace. But how can this opportunity be best exploited – what are the policies outside of our control that our companies need to be aware of, and what are the means for companies to align with European strategies and integrating with global players? What are the implications of the fast-evolving wireless communication technologies? How safe is my data? What about cyber-security issues?

What other non-ICT Security opportunities can my company engage in – Anti-Terrorism measures, CBRN protection, Infrastructure & Utility security, surveillance, etc?

The 7th Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development and Innovation is the EU’s key mechanism for funding research and innovation. These programmes are strategic in nature and generous funding is provided to help contribute to and shape the Innovation Union. FP7 has many opportunities for collaborative R&D including ICT and Security and the final round of Calls for Proposals is due to be published on 10th July 2012. What funded activities could your company participate in? Could this be the means to position your company in partnership with major European global players in the shaping of Europe 2020 and beyond?

Our Information Day on 11th June 2012 will, appropriately, be hosted by the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) at the QUB-ECIT Building in the Titanic Quarter, and is aimed and helping you to position your research and your company for the future through R&D.

Speakers will include :

Derek Gallaher – UK FP7 National Contact Point for Security. Derek will explain the specific opportunities in the FP7 Security Call for Proposals due to be published on 10th July 2012. Derek will place particular emphasis on the cyber-security R&D opportunities. See: http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/ShowDoc/Extensions+Repository/General+DocumDocument/Orientation+papers+2013/Cooperation/fp7-sec-2013-orientation-paper-working-doc_en.pdf

Peter Walters – UK FP7 National Contact Point for ICT. Peter will highlight the specific ICT opportunities in FP7 ICT Call for Proposals (Call 10)

Local relevant case studies

The challenges associated with participating in collaborative R&D are significant and Invest NI personnel will be on hand to indicate its mechanisms for supporting companies wishing to engage.

Description
European Research and Innovation at the Horizon’ is the theme for the EARMA conference in Dublin City of Science 2012 from 9 – 11 July, followed by Europe’s largest science conference, ESOF 2012 (Euroscience Open Forum http://www.dublinscience2012.ie/, from 11 – 15 July, 2012.
